Meeting Feb 2001 




The meeting highlight was a demonstration of "Robo Lure" a mechanized bird lure used to attract Raptors for a Birds of Prey Tracking Project, while respecting the community’s concern over use of live bait.  An operator controls lure movement through use of a foot-pedal controller & hand-controlled guide wire. 

The lure is a cyborg-like hybrid of preserved bird  & mechanical body part inserts with subsections for trunk, cavity  & head.  A diagram of the system was shown  along with a request for help to increase miniaturization, wing flapping speed & especially micro-miniature facial movements to display facial expressions that raptors can recognize.
